2017 Winners

The Tabby Awards are excited to present the award-winning mobile apps and games from our 2017 award program.

With all iOS and Android apps and games eligible and under consideration, winners were selected based on a combination of quantitative metrics and qualitative factors.

The analytical evaluation component focused on app store user review scores submitted over the course of 2017 to measure user engagement. The qualitative component – benefiting from the Tabby Awards expertise in judging app and game awards since 2012 – focused on user interface, design, and innovation. The degree of tablet-optimization was also a key factor in the assessment of iPad and Android tablet apps and games.

MOBILE APP AWARD HIGHLIGHTS

Winning apps included Spotify, Twitter, Bitmoji, Domino’s, Venmo, Instagram, MyFitnessPal, Lyft, TripAdvisor, and Netflix.

App publishers with multiple award winners included Google, Spotify, Rosetta Stone, Adobe, Redfin, and Audible.

“Indie” publishers – with Android apps like Nova Launcher and Weather Timeline – were also amongst the award winners.

With over 5.3 million consumer (non-gaming) apps available today on Android and iOS combined, these mobile app award winners are positioned in the top 0.003% of a massive market.

“We had several key themes emerge at this year’s mobile app awards. ‘Iconic franchise’ apps – like MyFitnessPal, Adobe Photoshop, Waze, and GMail – continued to generate strong user engagement and reviews in 2017,” commented Matt Harney, Executive Producer of the Tabby Awards. ” The ‘subscription economy’ – through apps like Netflix, Peloton, Spotify, Audible, New York Times, and Evernote – continues to grow across the app stores. The tablet market leadership of the iPad was reflected in 30 app winners.  Android’s continued momentum resulted in a record number of smartphone apps selected at this year’s event.”

MOBILE GAME AWARD HIGHLIGHTS

Winning games included Clash Royale, Madden NFL Football, Monument Valley, Pokemon GO, MARVEL Contest of Champions, and Minecraft.

Game publishers with multiple award winners included Electronic Arts, Disney, Nintendo, Gameloft, Ubisoft, and Supercell.

With over 1.4 mobile games available today on Android and iOS combined, these mobile gaming award winners represent the top 0.007% games.

“We had several key themes emerge at this year’s gaming awards. We saw the importance of iconic franchises and recognizable intellectual property – like Star Wars ™, Disney’s Frozen, MARVEL, Jurassic World ™, and Stranger Things – in driving downloads and user engagement,” commented Harney. Additionally, Android’s gaming momentum was reflected in 57 award winners, outpacing iOS’ 38 winners. Finally, the geographic diversity of the winning publishers underscores the global nature of game development today.”
